Environmental assessment and planning (revision and updating)

The motorway interchange “Kamener Kreuz” is one of the oldest and well known German interchanges. It is used to capacity with an amount of more than 152.000 vehicles per day (state of affairs 2005). Motorway improvement between the City of Böhnen and the interchange “Kamener Kreuz”  as well as the modification of the interchange “Kamener Kreuz” are to intensely increase the capability of the main infrastructure between the Cities of Hannover and Cologne, given that the level of traffic will also continue to increase.

This highly complex projects consists of new constructions for the undercrossing of the federal motorway A 1, the construction of the six-lane improvement of the federal motorway A 2, ten rain storage reservoirs, several water culverets as well as of a pumping station.

To make the architecture fitting into the landscape and to achieve full compensation the compensation took place in the close-up range as well as in the distance – like developing meadows with scattered fruit trees or enhancing biotope networks along stream water systems.
